Does it count as grocery?
Card bonuses follow the store's merchant category, not what's in your cart. Type any store and see what it really counts as — and whether a grocery bonus will actually post.
Checks 3,600+ verified US stores. Runs in your browser — nothing you type is sent anywhere.
Why a cart full of food can still miss the bonus
Banks pay category bonuses by the store's merchant category code (MCC). Supermarkets are one code; superstores like Walmart and Target, warehouse clubs like Costco and Sam's, and discount stores are different codes. Buy groceries at a superstore and the bank sees a superstore purchase. That's the whole trick, and no card app can change it — the honest move is to warn you before you pay.
Where this data comes from
This is the same verified merchant directory the RightCard app uses, including the store-format wrinkles (a Walmart Neighborhood Market really does code as a supermarket while a Supercenter doesn't). It's maintained continuously and this page is regenerated from it.
The app warns you at the moment you're about to pay.
RightCard picks the best card in your wallet at any store — and tells you when the bonus won't post, before you earn 1% by accident. Free, no bank login.
