How the winner is picked
Each card's published rate for the category, verified by two independent sources, with any rotating 5% window that is live today applied on top. In cash back mode every point counts as one cent, which is what most people actually get. In points & miles mode each program gets a travel value: the middle of four published sources, rounded down (Chase and Amex 1.8¢, Capital One 1.7¢, Citi 1.6¢, hotel points well under 1¢). We re-check them monthly, and the math is shown next to the number.
What it will not do
It will not tell you which card to get. There are plenty of calculators for that, and most of them are paid to say so. It will not count welcome bonuses, and it will not invent a "you saved $1,247" number. Choose-your-category cards (Citi Custom Cash, Bank of America Customized Cash) show their base rate here because the 5% depends on the category you pick; the app lets you set it.
